MODUL University Vienna is an international private university in Austria owned by the Vienna Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the largest provider of private education in Austria.       The world economy, and in particular the tourism industry, is currently experiencing seismic changes. New forms of tourism are envisaged as leading to management of all resources in such a way that economic, social and aesthetic needs can be fulfilled while maintaining cultural integrity, essential ecological processes, biological diversity and life support systems. The Master of Science in International Tourism Management - a 2-year, full time program aimed at candidates who obtained an undergraduate degree of minimum 3 years – strives to tackle the emerging global challenges, with a unique multidisciplinary approach, working with research teams from different fields. The degree qualifies students to continue with a PhD program and is open to graduates of bachelor programs in many subject areas. All courses are taught in English.

      The Program

The MSc study program strives to continue this tradition of rigorous scholarship that is deeply en-gaged with and highly relevant to the practical challenge of expanding spheres of prosperity in a socially and environmentally sustainable manner. The research and teaching staff actively participate in international scholarly and professional networks and are at the forefront of their field, which enables us to bring you right to the heart of scientific practice. MSc students are taught in the principles of sustainable development and will learn to understand the impact of environmental policies on local communities and international businesses or the impact of economic devel-opment policies on environmental quality. Further, students will investigate what policies can be implemented to reduce environmental impacts in the tourism production chain and will learn to what extent the success of local environmental policy depends on civic participation in policy making. The MSc in International Tourism Management will prepare students for leadership positions in the international tourism and hospitality industry and empower them with management skills to implement sustainable tourism strategies and corporate social responsibility. The future world needs people with comprehensive knowledge of both environmental and development issues to provide leadership for our local and global communities. MU Master of Science graduates will be able to address the globalization and sustainability challenges of this millennium. MSc students can begin their studies either in September or March.

      The Bachelor of Business Administration in Tourism and Hospitality Management is a 3-year, full-time program aimed at high school graduates, both with and without prior education in the area of tourism or hospitality management. The study program has a strong focus on innovative information communication technology and sustainable management strategies and is the only undergraduate university degree of its kind in Central Eu-rope. It is designed for students from all over the world who want to lay a solid foundation for their career in the tourism and leisure industry. All courses are taught in English.

      The Program

      MU’s faculty includes leading Austrian and international academic staff. Lectures and seminars delivered by scientists and professionals from abroad form an integral part of the curriculum. Courses on current trends in the industry keep students on top of recent developments. The wide variety of nationalities among faculty and students provide the basis the exciting intercultural life on campus. The curriculum develops the students’ academic, professional and personal skills promoting the spirit of enter-prise and effective service delivery and responsible management are the cornerstones of the program. Sound academic education is perfectly combined with business related training, for only a mind rooted in the real world can solve the current and future problems of the industry. Besides conveying a sense of service delivery and hospitality, the BBA program aims at preparing students for taking leading positions in the tourism and leisure industry worldwide, as well as to run their own businesses profitably. After one year of profound business education and a 4-6 months internship in the 4th semester in a national or international company, students have the chance to enhance their studies with subjects such as Event Man-agement and e-Marketing. A special short track program is available for students transferring from other man-agement or tourism oriented programs. Study abroad opportunities at other renowned academic universities, such as the University of Central Florida (US), Hong Kong Polytechnic University (China) or the University of Surrey (UK) are also possible. The study program allows intakes in spring (March) and fall (September).

      The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is organized as a two-year part-time program designed especially for industry professionals wanting to advance their careers. It builds these skills upon a solid foundation of core business disciplines including human resource management, organizational behavior, accounting and finance, marketing and operations, and innovation and entrepreneurship. The MBA program offers courses on a monthly basis throughout the entire academic year starting in October through September. Each course involves 2-3 days of interactive seminars led by internationally recognized scholars who convey their expertise and encourage participation through a variety of innovative teaching methods. The schedule is convenient for working professionals with blocked courses taking place on 4-5 consecutive weekdays and weekend-days. MBA students who finish all required courses in the first 12 months of the program can complete their degree in 18 months, with 4 months dedicated entirely to writing the master’s thesis. An extended format also gives participants the option to increase their study time to 24 months, allowing even more scheduling flexibility and additional time to work on an independent, applied research project that becomes the master’s thesis.       The PhD program in Business and Socioeconomic Sciences is a four year, full time study program that trains future scholars and researchers to contribute new scientific knowledge in their respective areas of specialization. Emphasis is given to being able to identify and frame problems and unanswered questions from the theoretical and professional literature, how to choose the most appropriate research designs for answering the questions, how to analyze relevant empirical evidence, and how to communicate research results to various audiences. The substantive areas of research are multidisciplinary, drawing upon concepts and methods from the fields of business management, economics, policy studies, sociology, and philosophy of science.

      Prerequisite for the admission to the PhD study program is a master or diploma degree in the field of business or one of the social or economic sciences from an accredited post-secondary educational institution. Applicants who do not completely fulfill these requirements can qualify by successfully completing Master of Sciences courses at MODUL University Vienna.
